Hello friends. I write you from Spain. I have started with crabs a few months ago, with some Geosesarma hagen. I have so much to learn but I think that I'm in the good road.
Last day I found an Uca splendida (I don't know if Uca crassipes is a synonym) in a shop, it was in some bad conditions so I bought it. I have it in a tank with sand, some rocks and a water zone.
I want to have some plants, but I don't know which plants could be in basic pH. Anubia die, I have tried.
About food, I think that I have some problems to give its calcium, how can I do it?
What do you recommend me?

Hi & welcome Jmlast,
U. splendida WAS a synonym but it was shown that it is a valid species in 2012:
http://web.nchu.edu.tw/~htshih/uca/U_spl..._paper.htm So now it's a sister species of U. crassipes.
Was the crab in salty water or fresh water? Most fiddler crabs can't tolerate fresh water and take irreparable damage from it. Hopefully the water in your tank is brackish and not fresh water.
The only species database we made 'til now is
http://www.panzerwelten.de/forum/showthr...p?tid=1028 but many aspects are correct for most fiddler crabs. Advice for food and calcium you find in the food list:
http://www.panzerwelten.de/forum/showthr...p?tid=1453 (leave crushed egg shells, we have to get this out of those fact sheets since it seems to be useless).
If you want to place plants in the tanks they have to be saltwater resistable as mangroves.
Hasta la vista, Ollie

mmmm I have it in salty water, but I don't know which concentration it's ok... How much salt per liter?
I have an Uca alone, but it's a 40L tank, it's a bit small... Is gonna be ok? Do I have to look for others?

Hiho
We do not know which concentrations might be suitable for this species. It's important there is any salt in the water. One would have to look at what zone of the coast this species lives and then adapt the concentration somewhere between 5 and 34 permille.
The 40 litre tank is okay for a while. Usually Uca spp. are living in colonies but you probably won't find no other specimens, especially females. They are usually not imported because the males with the bigger claws look more impressive… :-(

Well I will try to find a female and have two... This one was a rescue from a shop... In any case, ty so much. I know that this specie is from South Asia, so I will look the salt concentration there.
